Exhibition opening 20 February 2017, Raffaella De Chirico Gallery Contemporary Art
Con la preziosa tessitura cromatica della tela «Ulisse bianco II», s’inaugura lunedì 20 febbraio, dalle 18.30 alle 21.30, alla Galleria Raffaella De Chirico Arte Contemporanea, (via Giolitti 52/via della Rocca 19), la mostra «Anatomia dell’inquietudine» del raffinato pittore giapponese Horiki Katsutomi.
There is in his research, conducted with a meditated and lyrical abstractionism, the Zen philosophical conception, the sense of an inner contemplation and the ability to transcribe on the surfaces of the paintings and works on paper a personal interpretation of the Odyssey and Ulysses' journey to Ithaca. And the journey unfolds through a vision that links the painted pages to the singular and evocative words of Ferdinando Pessoa: "To travel is enough to exist... I pass from day to day as from station to station, in the train of my body".
And through Horiki's works, therefore, the fascination of Ulysses' adventure is renewed, the landing on the island of Ogygia, where he met the nymph Calypso, and the return to his homeland, in a kind of poetic and suspended pictorial narration.
Specifically, from the subtle weave of color emerges the silhouette, delicate and ethereal, of the bow of a ship that finds echoes and references to the current desperate migrations.
And so the myth becomes contemporary history, a moment and synthesis of Katsutomi's life, who in 1969 left Tokyo, where he was born in 1929, for Europe.
Il suo viaggio si è trasformato in una stagione creativa caratterizzata dalle presenze alle mostre di Palazzo Saluzzo Paesana e delle gallerie torinesi «Salzano», «Weber&Weber» e «Raffaella De Chirico» all’interno della collettiva «Ti trovo un po’ pallida» del 2016.
In occasione di «Anatomia dell’ inquietudine», viene aperto al pubblico il nuovo spazio della Galleria De Chirico: una «project room» per gli artisti emergenti.
